Quepos is the seat of the Aguirre canton, it maintains an important relationship with banana production activities in this part of the country.
The old Banana Fruit Company structures are still preserved to this day.
A modern city
The city offers a great variety of accommodation, dining and recreation options, as well as spectacular scenery of landscapes on the coast.
Its wharf serves as a arrival-/departure point for sport-fishing and recreational boat trips.
Manuel Antonio National Park
Lying on the pacific coast 7 kilometers south of the town of Quepos between Damas and Matapalos, was created in 1972 with an extension of 683 hectares on land and 55.000 hectares more in the sea.
This park has a remarkably long list of species inhabiting it: brown pelicans, brown boobies, tyrant hawk-eagles, gray-headed chachalacas, solater's ant bird, coatimundis, two and three toed sloths, toed anteaters, ocelots amongst others.
