El Zocalo
The Zócalo of Puebla is the main central plaza of the city, located directly in the bull-eye of the city.
It’s much a park with trees, benches, fountains, etc. - a place for people to relax and take in all the surrounding.
The music and entertainment that fills the Zócalo, especially on weekends, creates an environment that attracts families and people of all ages.
The Cathedral
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is perhaps the most simbolic and important architectural structure of Puebla. It’s located along side the Zócalo and stands out for its size and beauty.
Built between 1575 and 1649, the Cathedral is distinguished for its twin towers that rise to over 30 meters, famous for being the tallest in the country and for its enormous bells housed within.
The interior is very spacious and contains a variety of invaluable art, such as the wooden choir loft, two organs, tapestries, and frescos from some of the most famous artists and crasftmen between the 17th and 19th centuries.
Museo Amparo
Inaugurated in February 1991, the Museo Amparo is one of the principal cultural pieces that the Amparo Foundation has created.
Located just two blocks from the Zócalo en the very center of town, inside of beautiful colonial buildings from the 16th and 18th century, this enormous musuem displays a vast collection of prehispanic, colonial, modern and contemporaneous art.
Through the collections, visitors have a panorama of diverse cultures that inhabited Prehispanic Mexico since the preclassical era (2500BC - 300AC) up through the postclassical era (900AC - 1521AC).
