► Basic information on Spain

NerjaThe farming and fishing village of Nerja is located about 50 kms (30 mi) east of Málaga. Its name comes from the Arabic 'Naricha' meaning abundant spring and it enjoys a privileged climate and fantastic landscaped surroundings which make for a great place to study Spanish abroad, where it alternates between spectacular cliffs and golden beaches.

Its gastronomy is typical Spanish Mediterranean dishes such as cod with honey tortilla, migas and fresh local fish.

Nerja (Spain) - Things to See:

  • La Cueva de Nerja – Limestone Caves
  • Balcon de Europa – Spectacular sea views

The Cave

Nerja (Spain) - The Cave

The routes through the caves run for a total of 4,283m (2.66 miles) but only a third of the area is actually open to the public. There are three points of entry; two are of natural origin and the third is man-made, having been opened in 1960. The cave can be divided into two main areas, the tourist sector known as the lower galleries and the remaining area of the cave which as yet not accessible to the public is known as the Upper and New galleries

Arab Tea Place

Nerja (Spain) - Arab Tea Place

Discover a very interesting place in Nerja. Jardín de Al-Andaluz is the only typical Arab tea house in Nerja. There you can enjoy a quiet evening, with typical teas, Arabic pastries, and several different types of coffees, mix drinks and other milk shakes. The ambiance is very relax and quiet, so you can enjoy your drink and the company of your friends. While you enjoy your tea, you can also admire the Arabic decor, with Turkish rugs, small tables and Arabic pillows.

And if you are up for it, try a Water Pipe, the only way to "smoke" fruit tea.
