► Basic information on Spain

The City of Barbastro, situated just south of the Sierra de Guara, has a population of around fifteen thousand. The city’s economy is principally based on service activities and light industry.

Although not deprived of interesting and enchanting characteristics, the city’s attractiveness to visitors is its privileged position, allowing easy access to touristic and recreational activities of the first order.

Sierra de Guara: canyoning and trekking

Each year, the Sierra de Guara attracts thousands of tourists, principally to participate in such outdoor activities as canyoning and trekking or to visit such charming villages as Alquezar.

The zone’s gastronomy and village festivals (particularly in summer) are other important attractions.

The Pyrenees are less than an hour away from Barbastro

In addition, the Pyrenees are less than an hour away from Barbastro and provide visitors a myriad of possibilities beyond those available in the Sierra de Guara. In addition to some of those previous mentioned, we can add paragliding, kayaking, cliff climbing and visits to such spectacular sights as Ordesa National Park and the ascension of 3000 metre peaks like those of Aneto and Madaleta.

The Huesca region of the Pyrenees is composed of various parallel valleys with important touristic urban centers such as Benasque, Ainsa and Jaca.
