► Basic information on Chile

Iquique, capital of the first region, is one of the most visited cities in the Norte of Chile.

As well as the cultural background and long history, it's the starting point for all the excursions to visit the Altiplano and the old saltpeter offices. If one adds spectacular beaches, an excellent hotel infrastructure and a mild climate all year, Iquique becomes an irresistible destination.

Beaches

The beaches of ,Iquique of smooth slope, are ideal for baths of sea and sun, the practice of nautical sports, fishes and hiking.

The temperature of the water fluctuates between 16°C and 20°C, whereas the environmental temperature is of 25 Cs average. The best known beaches are: the Playa Huayquique, the Playa Blanca and the Brava beach.

Historical District

Declared as National Monument the center is set of some old declared constructions and buildings - there is also the port with the Wharf of Passengers and the Ex-Customs; in the Sotomayor-Street you'll find the well known English Railway station

Arturo Prat-Square

Surrounded by the Municipal Theater and the beautiful Spanish Center in Moorish style; in the middle of the square you will find the Clock-Tower which is a true symbol of the city.

Regional Museum

The Regional museum of Iquique you'll find in the Baquedano Street.

It shows one of the most complete and interesting historical and anthropological collections of the North of Chile.

Zofri

Zofri is the traditional Frank Zone of Iquique, the greatest of South America with 240 hectares of warehouses and great Commercial Center with around the 400 premises between which there are restaurants and banking branches.
