Ávila is a town in the south of Castile, the capital of the province of the same name, now part of the autonomous community of Castile and Léon.

The town is situated in 1.128 m above the sea level on the riverside of the river Adaja.

Avila also is renowned for Teresa of Avila (1515 to 1582), the Carmelite reformer, who lived there.
