Ávila / Spain - Medieval town wallsMedieval town walls

The city is famous for its medieval town walls (Las Murallas), the best-maintained example to be found in Europe.

The Walls of Ávila are much more than just a simple instrument of war, they are like a book which reflects the history of Ávila and its peoples.

Avila also is renowned for Teresa of Avila (1515 to 1582), the Carmelite reformer, who lived there.
