Masaya, located near the Laguna de Apoyo, is the center of artisan handicrafts in the region, where dozens of artisans make products in their home.

The artisan market contains wood and fiber handicrafts made in Masaya plus items made in other parts of Nicaragua.

Laguna de Apoyo

Laguna de Apoyo is a Nature Reserve with the largest volcanic crater lake in the region.

The water is clear and contains fishes only found in this lake.

There are monkeys, toucans, parrots and jaguarundis among the animals of the forest surrounding the lake.

Nightlife and Festival of San Jerónimo

The city of Masaya offers an extended nightlife such as Bucanero with live music and great food. There are lots of small restaurants near the city center.

The city celebrates the entire month of October the festival of San Jerónimo, with dances in the streets, fireworks and parades.
