The city of Guanajuato is the capital of the state of the same name.

It is located in the northwest of Mexico City, at an elevation of 1,996 m (6,550 ft) above sea level.

The name "Guanajuato" comes from the Tarascan word, "Quanax-juato", which means "place of frogs."

The city of Guanajuato was the birthplace of artist Diego Rivera.

Hidalgo Market

This market was built at the start of the 20th century and inaugurated in 1910 by President Porfirio Diaz.

Its facade is of pink cantera stone. Inside you can buy regional candies and crafts, on the left side you find the Gavira Market (typical Mexican food) and outside on the Plaza Gavira the "open air" market.

Jardín de la Unión (Union Garden)

A beautiful triangular-shaped park located in the center of the city, this is one of the places where locals get together.

On Thursdays and Sundays at 7:00 p.m., the plaza comes alive with the music of the State Band.

International Cervantino Festival (music, dance and theatre)

The first International Cervantino Festival was made of the 29 of September to the 28 of October of 1972.

The FIC is the cultural event, of international character, more important of Mexico and one of most excellent of America.

In XXXI the editions that have been carried out, its programming has reunited cultural manifestations of all the regions of the world.
